The Preparatory Phase of the European Solar Telescope (PRE-EST) has recently been approved under the H2020 framework programme. This 4-years project involves 23 research institutions from 16 countries. The main objective of the EST Preparatory Phase is to provide both, the international consortium and the national funding agencies, with a detailed plan for the implementation of the European Solar Telescope. This will allow them to make decisions, to address organisational and technical issues, as well as to clearly define and precise cost estimates and risks, among other critical aspects. Moreover, the present project will lead the detailed design of EST and key project elements to the required level of definition and validation.The project will officially starts next April 2017.
